What is Business Wellbeing and why do we need it?

Business wellbeing is a measure of how well our business is balanced.

It can be tempting to throw ourselves and our people into activity that’s designed solely to grow the profits of a business. But if financial growth is all we focus on, rather than the whole wellbeing of the business, the business and its people will soon be out of balance leading to stress, exhaustion and burnout, people off sick, failure to deliver consistently to customers and a drastic drop in sales.

There are 5 principle of business wellbeing which, if applied in equal measures, could transform you and your business.

In summary, the 5 Principles of Business Wellbeing are:

  1.  Build relationships
  2. Personal health and wellbeing
  3. Learn and grow
  4. Abundance
  5. Have fun

The 5 Principles of Business Wellbeing

  1. Build relationships

Strong relationships are critical in business.

  • Business can be lonely. Strong relationships help to build a sense of belonging.
  • They provide opportunities for collaboration.
  • They can lead to business referrals.
  • Our relationships offer practical and emotional support and allow us to do the same in return.
  1. Take responsibility for personal health and wellbeing

The health of a business is not just determined by the financial figures. To be able to continue growing our business and delivering our product or service, we need to take care of our ourselves too. in respect of our personal, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Otherwise, we burn out and cease to be able to function at optimum levels. We need to offer flexibility for our people to take responsibility for their personal health and wellbeing too.

  • Exercise daily.
  • Drink more water.
  • Get creative.
  • Be still.
  1. Learn and grow

A business is like a tree. If it’s not growing, it’s dying. To grow our business, we need to grow first as individuals. The easiest way to grow is to learn new ways of thinking and doing – and to implement that.

  • Read (or listen to) more books that stretch your thinking.
  • Take part in online learning events – and implement what you learn.
  • Plan the implementation of your growth.
  • Celebrate and share your successes.
  1. Abundance

We give to others and are grateful for everything we receive. This improves our mental wellbeing and is sure to create a reciprocal effect.

  • Be grateful and say thank you.
  • Give generously.
  • Know that there is more than enough for everyone.
  1. Have fun every day

We know that what’s fun gets done. If you’re not enjoying it, it’s not for you. Move on.

  • Smile more.
  • Be playful.
  • Love what you do.
