I’ve always been a fan of The Simpsons.
Whenever chaos erupts, 10-year-old Bart’s catchphrase is ready on repeat: “It wasn’t me!”
Growing up in a house with four sisters, I’ll admit, “It wasn’t me” was also a pretty useful tactic for escaping responsibility. Mysterious broken items, blocked sinks, missing biscuits? Plausible deniability was easy when there were five suspects under one roof.
But here’s the thing! Many of us never really grow out of that reflex.
Instead of “it wasn’t me,” adulthood just upgrades our excuses. Suddenly, it’s:
The list is endless.
We can point the finger from the local dog walker to global politics.
And yet, here’s the uncomfortable truth:
Nobody else is coming to take ownership of our lives. That job is ours.
The late Wayne Dyer once said: “However much you protest, you are responsible for everything that happens in your life.”
At first glance, that can feel harsh – maybe even unfair.
But sit with it a moment. If it’s true, then it’s also incredibly liberating. Because if you’re responsible, you’re also in charge.
Most of our actions, thoughts, and emotions run on unconscious programming – old patterns from childhood, school, culture, and the endless background noise of news and social media.
We go through life on autopilot, reacting the same way, repeating the same habits, and – surprise! – getting the same results.
But here’s the radical shift: if you can notice your thoughts, you can change them.
Change the thought → change the feeling → change the action → change the outcome.
It sounds simple. It is simple. But it’s also profoundly powerful.
In business, in careers, in relationships, radical ownership is the difference between:
This is where self-leadership comes in.
When you take ownership of your own results, fully and unapologetically, you stop outsourcing your power. You stop waiting for circumstances, people, or luck to shift in your favour. You become the author of your own outcomes.
That’s what we do inside the Self Leaders’ Sanctuary.
It’s about leading yourself first, breaking free from hustle culture, and finally stepping into the life and results you want.
Because here’s the bottom line:
👉 You can’t lead a team, a business, or even a project until you’re willing to lead yourself.
👉 And you can’t lead yourself until you’re willing to take ownership.
Radical ownership isn’t about blame.
It’s about power. It’s about freedom. And it’s about saying, once and for all: “It WAS me – and that’s why I can change it.”
